KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Hope Center KC and Sankofa EDG will host a groundbreaking ceremony Monday, July 13, for Hope Village, a new housing initiative that will bring 21 attainable homes to Kansas City’s East Side.
The Hope Center KC has served Kansas City’s East Side since 1999 through programs and opportunities designed to help children, youth and families flourish. Hope Village extends that mission into homeownership by turning Hope Center-owned lots into new homes for working families.
The project will include nine single-family homes and six duplexes, with homes primarily targeting families earning between 80% and 120% of area median income.
Hope Village is being made possible through a public-private partnership that includes The Hope Center KC, Sankofa EDG, the Central City Economic Development Sales Tax program, Murrell Homes Real Estate Group, Bell Bank, CHES, Inc., Pathway Financial, the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, and other community partners.
The partnership is designed to do more than build homes. Public support will help reduce construction costs, while preferred mortgage lending, down payment assistance, homebuyer education and financial literacy services will help prepare families for successful long-term homeownership. Through this model, eligible buyers may be able to purchase homes with an estimated $50,000 in equity at move-in.
